South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone's first Broadway musical, The Book of Mormon, begins performances on February 24 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, and to celebrate, the comedic duo decided to invite a few beautiful showgirls over to their hotel room for some fun! Well, not quite...posing for the pages of this month's GQ magazine, Parker and Stone joined a crew of leggy ladies for a shoot with photographer Martin Schoeller and to discuss the controversial new musical.
"It's so their m.o. to be nice to people," Stone said of the show's namesake religion. "We're going to be so nice that you're going to want to be a part of this.'" That's why the pair, along with composer Robert Lopez, decided to tackle Mormons instead of another popular South Park target, Scientology. "That would be more hateful," Parker said of a Scientology-centric show. "It'd be more 'Fuck these people.' This show isn't 'Fuck Mormons.' It really is this fascination."
Once the musical is up and running, Parker and Stone will return to work on South Park, but plan on making a detour beforehand to Uganda! The musical is set in the African country and Parker and Stone hope to meet a Mormon missionary in person. "I'm just gonna go knock on the door of the mission and be like, 'Wuttup!'" Stone said.
